Tim has been singing in choirs almost continuously since he was nine, having sung in his primary school, high school and university ensembles before joining BHA in 2019, when he became a bass in the Baden Street Singers. He is also the bass of mixed quartet Quadraphonic. Since his beginnings in barbershop, he has volunteered for leadership positions in both his chorus and region, first becoming Music Vice President of the Baden Street Singers in 2023, then being elected Western Region Chair in 2024.
Music remains a huge part of Tim’s life even outside of barbershop. A pianist by training, Tim holds an Associate in Music, Australia (AMusA) diploma from the Australian Music Examinations Board in piano performance, and also has a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree in Music from the University of Western Australia. While at university, Tim served as Publications Officer and OCM on the committee of the UWA Music Students’ Society for three years, during which he was responsible for marketing and publicity.
Since 2022, Tim has also been a high school music teacher with a Master of Teaching (Secondary) degree in Music Education from UWA. He currently works in the WA public school system where he teaches classroom music from Years 7 through 12, directs two choirs and serves as vocal coach for his school’s barbershop quartets and musical theatre club. Tim is passionate about promoting and encouraging singing in the classroom, and to that end has written several choral and a cappella arrangements specially for his students.
Being the youngest regional chair, one of Tim’s priorities during his tenure has been engaging schools in barbershop. At his first regional festival, Tim brought in 3 schools encompassing 36 students to make their BHA debuts in the quartet contest and showcase concert. Going forward, Tim hopes to expand WA schools’ involvement in the Western Region Festival and with BHA more broadly, developing barbershop-related professional learning opportunities for music educators, and supporting Western Region clubs to ensure the region’s sustainability and growth into the future.
